Is Cabinet Refacing The Right Kitchen Renovation For Me?
In many instances, a home’s current kitchen cabinets are structurally sound. The actual issue is that they look outdated or worn on the surface. It’s the PRESENTATION that needs an upgrade—not the underlying framework.
If that’s the case with your kitchen cabinets, cabinet refacing is a fantastic option. It requires substantially less time and cost than full-scale kitchen remodeling. It’s also much more cost-effective and quicker than actually replacing your cabinets.

What Makes Crystal Lake Unique?
Crystal Lake is the perfect city to visit or move to. It’s only an hour northwest of the Chicago metropolitan area. Many highways run along and through Crystal Lake which makes it easy to get around. There’s also plenty to do, with the Three Oaks Recreation Area as well as the Crystal Lake Park District. Crystal Lake is home to all sorts of entertainment, and it also has a rich and storied history. Crystal Lake itself is gorgeous and provides the space for plenty of recreational options.
History Of Crystal Lake
The history of Crystal Lake starts in 1835 when Ziba S. Beardsley came across the shore of the lake. Ziba commented on the waters, saying they were “as clear as crystal“. Ever since the lake has been known as Crystal Lake. However, the Crystal Lake area wouldn’t have any settlers until 1836. In February of that year, the first white settlers arrived. Their names were Beman and Polly Crandall, and they brought six of their ten children with them. The other four of the Crandall’s children would be born in their cabin in Crystal Lake. The next settlers wouldn’t arrive until May of 1837. For the next few years, the town would be known as Crystal Ville. However, by 1840 it would become known as The Village of Crystal Lake.
The area that would eventually become downtown Crystal Lake began as Deerborne in the 1850s when a railway was set up in the area. The first train station was built in Deerborne in 1856, and it was only about a mile from the Crystal Lake business district. With access to Chicago and the world beyond, Deerborne started to quickly build itself up. In 1868, Deerborne changed its name to Nunda, or “Nun-day” as the locals would call it. Both Crystal Lake and Nunda wouldn’t be officially incorporated until 1874. However, in 1908 Nunda would change its name again, becoming North Crystal Lake. There were many attempts, and arguments, involved in trying to consolidate North Crystal Lake and Crystal lake into one city. Finally, in 1914 North Crystal Lake was annexed into the Village of Crystal Lake.
Things To Do In Crystal Lake
Crystal Lake has an incredible amount of options for dining and shopping. The main thoroughfare of Crystal Lake has everything from local shops to major retailers, from fine dining to fast food! And on top of that, there’s the gorgeous and historic Downtown! It has an array of fine eateries and unique boutiques. Downtown Crystal lake is incredibly charming and it’s easy to spend hours just perusing the different shops.
For outdoor recreation, there are also plenty of options! To begin with, there’s the Three Oaks Recreation Area. Originally the Vulcan Materials stone quarry, the Vulcan lakes were created when the quarry accidentally pierced the water table. The quarry flooded, but the Village of Crystal Lake decided to make the best of it. The lakes were stocked with fish and transformed into a beautiful recreation area. It’s become a great area to bird watch, hike, or just relax.
In addition to the Three Oaks Recreation Area, there’s also the Crystal Lakes Park District. In the beginning, the park district was created out of a growing concern that Crystal Lake would be bought and made unavailable to the public. Now, it contains 42 different parks and many facilities to enjoy the area with. Facilities include the Nature Center, Main and West Beaches, Colonel Palmer House, Lippold Family Golf Center, Boncosky Softball Complex at Lippold Park, Grand Oaks Recreation/Active Adult Center, the Racket Club, Ballina House Preschool, and numerous picnic shelters. There are plenty of things the Crystal Lake Park District has to offer!
