Is Cabinet Refacing The Right Kitchen Renovation For Me?
In many instances, a home’s current kitchen cabinets are structurally sound. The actual issue is that they look outdated or worn on the surface. It’s the PRESENTATION that needs an upgrade—not the underlying framework.
If that’s the case with your kitchen cabinets, cabinet refacing is a fantastic option. It requires substantially less time and cost than full-scale kitchen remodeling. It’s also much more cost-effective and quicker than actually replacing your cabinets.

History of Long Grove
Long Grove’s history dates back all the way to 1838 when the area that would become Illinois was being surveyed. The survey maps showed large groves of oak trees in the prairie. One of these groves of trees had been labeled Long Grove. The area that would one day be Long Grove had its first settler before 1840. John Gridley was the first, but soon many more would arrive to settle the beautiful area.
In the mid-1840s, many German immigrants were moving into the Illinois area to make new lives. Although, much of the prairie’s land had already been claimed. That left the large oak groves for the immigrants, where they began claiming and building their homesteads. The area would start being called Muttersholz, which means Mother’s Wood in German, after a post office was built nearby. The Civil War’s recruiting efforts, paired with major industrial opportunities in Chicago, took many of the Yankee settlers away from Long Grove. The remaining population lead to German being the most commonly spoken language. However, this wouldn’t last forever.
Changes from the War
The hostility towards Germans during WWI compelled the populace to speak primarily English and the area to once again be named Long Grove. Once WWII started, most of the village’s young men were sent to fight in the war. Many local farms were left behind and filled with German-crafted furniture and tools. In 1947, the Fanning family opened their Farmside Store in Long Grove. They found that visiting Chicagoans were incredibly interested in these German-made antiques.
Between the growing antique trade in the area and the end of the war, many developers found value in Long Grove as a growing community. They wanted to maintain the village’s antique style and historic character while adding modern conveniences for all those that would live there. In 1956, the village of Long Grove became incorporated and continues to grow to this day!
