What Makes Williams Bay Unique?

Williams Bay is an incredible village in southern Wisconsin. It’s located on Geneva Lake, which makes this village a unique place to visit or live. Williams bay is home to Yerkes Observatory, which houses the world’s largest refracting telescope ever constructed. The village is home to many shopping areas that have diverse boutiques and delicious eateries. George Williams College of Aurora is in Williams Bay which offers many different collegiate programs and hosts the Music by the Lake summer festival series. History Of Williams Bay

In 1835, Captain Isiah Williams and his two boys left Massachusetts and headed to Wisconsin. They were looking for good farmland and a place to build their homestead. They came to the area and began to settle it. Williams Bay was named to honor Captain Isiah Williams. More families would travel to Williams Bay to make their homesteads, but the population of the area would stay low for many years to come.

In 1888, the first railroad came to Williams Bay, and that would lead to a major increase in population. Williams Bay became a popular spot for the wealthy businessmen of closeby city of Chicago. By 1894, Williams Bay had a residential district, school, church, and multiple businesses. Also in 1894, the Yerkes Observatory began construction. It would take three years to finish.  Williams Bay would continue to grow over the years. After WWII, many veterans of the war were coming home and looking for a place to start a family. Many found that place in Williams Bay. The village continued to flourish until it became the gorgeous place it is today.
